Cambridge Glass Museum Quality Inverted Fish Near Cut Water Tankard

Vintage From Paul is delighted to offer this pristine condition Cambridge Glass Museum Quality Inverted Fish Near Cut Water Tankard. The Cambridge Glass Museum Quality Rare Inverted Fish Water Tankard  can be seen on Page 160 of “The Standard Encyclopedia of Pressed Glass”, Fifth edition, 1860-1930 by Bill Edwards and Mike Carwile.

The tall Near Cut Inverted Fish Water Tankard dates to the early 1900’s, and is quite a find as production of this pattern was limited most likely due to the intensive amount of labor involved and the high degree of detail in the design.

Cambridge Glass had a few in ”inverted” intaglio patterns, the more frequently seen being Inverted Strawberry, Followed by Inverted Thistle, Inverted Feather. There was also an Inverted Peacock made by Cambridge. Inverted Fish was made only in the Water Tankard and matching tumblers. Unlike the pother patterns, Inverted Fish was never manufactured in iridized, Carnival Glass.

The unique part of this particular Cambridge Glass Museum Quality Rare Inverted Fish Water Tankard is the beautiful and artful handle on the tankard which is in the form of a “fish”, we thought a trout as there is even the detailing of the two small water intake valves on the snout of the fish. The slight scales are visible. The detailing is magnificent!

The handle of this Cambridge Glass Museum Quality Rare Inverted Fish Water Tankard  is a well defined fish, with the back fin at the top and the head at the bottom. There is even a top dorsal fin on the handle. The pressed glass design on the body is of fish, coral and sea weed. There is a row of rounded coral at the base. The base has a 30 point star.

The Cambridge Glass Museum Quality Rare Inverted Fish Water Tankard  stands 11-1/2 inches to the top of the spout. It measures 8 inches from spout to handle. The base diameter is 4-3/4 inches. The tankard weighs 4 pounds 11 ounces.

The Cambridge Glass Museum Quality Rare Inverted Fish Water Tankard  is in pristine condition with no defects or flaws noted. It would be a wonderful and rare addition to any collection of Cambridge Glass or EAPG collection.
