Vintage From Paul is delighted to offer this whimsical Locking Plaid Puppy Bank from the Kreiss Ceramic Company.

The Kreiss Ceramic 1957 Locking Plaid Puppy Bank is marked on the bottom of one foot, "copyright symbol and Kreiss, 1957".

Kreiss began in 1946 and began using the name "Kreiss & Company" in 1951. They stopped producing ceramics in the late 1960's or early 1970's when they switched to making fine furniture.

The Kreiss Ceramic 1957 Locking Plaid Puppy Bank has a slot in the back. The puppy is has a creamy ivory body which is the perfect canvass for the hand painted light blue and cranberry plaid design. The puppy has a red bow collar with a tab where the lock is inserted. His "face" is artfully detailed with slightly blushing jowl, black button nose, black floppy ears, black tail and blue eyes. There is the semblance of "stitching" found at the top of the head and on the paws.

Our Kreiss Ceramic 1957 Locking Plaid Puppy Bank is in excellent condition with no major chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. There is a small area of cranberry paint which does not follow the line on the back of his body, but it is a manufacturing flaw under the glaze. There is one very small chip on the inner rim of the body of the bank which obviously does not show when the head is in place. Also, while a lock is included, we do not believe it to be original to the bank, as it looks to be a newer "Master" lock. There are however two keys  included.

The Kreiss Ceramic 1957 Locking Plaid Puppy Bank stands 7-1/2 inches in height. He measures 5 inches in length, 3-3/4 inches in width.
