The Shafford Japan Cambridge Creamware Tall Handled Vase embossed with a raised laurel design, accented with a flowing bow and ribbon near the top which leads the eye to the two handles on either side in the form of a lions head. The top of the vase carries the same raised beaded swag design while the footed base has raised elongated half circles. The foot itself has a smaller elongated circle design.
The Shafford Japan Cambridge Creamware Tall Handled Vase stands 10 inches in height, measures 4-1/8 inches in diameter at the top and 3-1/4 inches in diameter at the foot.
With textural exuberance tempered by quiet color, creamware has created exquisite table settings for centuries. Developed in the mid-1700s by English potters as an alternative to patterned porcelain from China, it became an instant sensation. The first creamware was a breakfast set given by English industrialist Josiah Wedgwood to Queen Charlotte, who was so smitten with the delectable china that she allowed him to call it queensware.
