Vintage From Paul is delighted to offer this Weil Ware Covered Casserole Dish which is a great example of California Pottery from Max Weil in the Bambu Yellow pattern which was manufactured in the 1940's

The Bambu Dinnerware line, as created by Max Weil, came in yellow, coral or aqua with hand painted stalks of bamboo in black or a deep brown. The dinnerware was promoted in a 1942 magazine as the height of fashion. The pattern later developed into Malay Bambu which is similar in design, with the stalks of the bamboo having green leaves. Max Weil operated his potteries in the Los Angeles California area during the 1940's. He later chose to leave the pottery/dinnerware business and concentrate his design efforts in Weil Ceramics and Glass, responsible for many lovely head vases, and other items.

The Covered Casserole is in very good condition, having no wear to the design...the colors are bright, the graphics crisp. It does have crazing, a small hair line on the lid as well as a small chip on the inner rim of the base. All in all the casserole displayes very well and even with its' minor defects is a usable and very lovely piece.

The Casserole stands 3-1/8 inches in height without the lid in place, 4-1/8 inches with the lid in place. It measures 10 inches from handle to handle, has an upper bowl diameter of 8 inches.. It is marked with the Weil Burro and "Hand Decorated Weil Ware, Made in California, Design Pat 1960.6"

This relish tray would be a welcomed addition to any collection of "Bamboo" , Weil Potteries or California Pottery collection.
